Pakistan Celebrates UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education 2023

Islamabad, Pakistan celebrated the prestigious UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education 2023, awarded to the Pakistan Alliance for Girls Education (PAGE), in a ceremony attended by Caretaker Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Madad Ali Sindhi. The event, held at IMSG (VI-X) G-7/2, recognized the significant contribution of PAGE and its founder, Fajr Rabia Pasha, in advancing girls’ education in Pakistan.

According to Press Information Department, Madad Ali Sindhi, along with Secretary Waseem Ajmal Chaudhry, honored the participants with shields during the celebration titled “Empowering Girls Through Education.” Sindhi lauded Fajr Rabia Pasha and PAGE for their efforts in establishing schools for women and promoting education, for which they received the UNESCO award in China, presented by the first lady of China.

Sindhi highlighted the role of the Ministry’s leadership in nominating PAGE for this award, praising the officers for their impartiality and merit-based judgment. He noted that PAGE runs about 170 non-formal schools across Pakistan, significantly contributing to education for girls, including Afghan refugees. These schools, supported by JICA of Japan and other charitable organizations, play a crucial role in poverty alleviation, women’s welfare, and sustainable development.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to women’s education, Madad Ali Sindhi emphasized that women, who constitute half of Pakistan’s population, are essential for the country’s full potential. He reaffirmed the resolve to ensure equal learning opportunities for women in Pakistan.
