New York: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, has reiterated the country’s commitment to combating Islamophobia through dialogue, interfaith harmony, and education. He emphasized the importance of these measures in a statement on the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, highlighting the need to reject discrimination and intolerance.
According to Radio Pakistan, Ambassador Ahmad underscored the day’s significance as an opportunity to express solidarity with Islamophobia’s victims and emphasize the threat it poses to Muslims’ lives, dignity, and heritage. He also called for a renewed resolve to combat Islamophobia in its various forms.
The statement pointed to manifestations of Islamophobia, including violent attacks on Muslims, mosque demolitions, desecration of the Holy Quran, and disparagement of cultural and religious symbols like the hijab. Ambassador Ahmad noted Pakistan’s efforts to work with like-minded countries and the United Nations to develop a structured approach to identify, monitor, and address Islamophobic trends and incidents.
