Islamabad: Pakistan and Denmark have renewed their commitment to improving global trade competitiveness by modernizing Pakistan’s maritime infrastructure, enhancing port efficiency, and introducing sustainable practices. This was concluded in a meeting between Pakistan’s Minister for Maritime Affairs, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, and Danish Ambassador Jakob Linulf.
The discussions centered on upgrading port facilities, enhancing logistics, and promoting sustainable initiatives such as green shipping and renewable energy solutions. Both countries emphasized the importance of workforce development and cultural ties, agreeing to accelerate the implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed last year.
Denmark has pledged to invest approximately $2 billion in Pakistan’s maritime sector through the MoU. The investment aims to modernize infrastructure and foster sustainable practices, including reducing emissions and enhancing environmental efficiency at Pakistan’s ports.
The visit of A.P. Moller-Maersk’s CEO, Vincent Clerc, to Pakistan this week underscores the importance of this collaboration. Clerc is scheduled to meet with Pakistan’s Prime Minister and other senior officials to discuss further developments.
Minister Chaudhry highlighted efforts to implement green maritime technologies, ensuring that the maritime workforce is trained in managing modern, eco-friendly vessels and facilities. Ambassador Linulf reaffirmed Denmark’s commitment to expanding Pakistan’s maritime sector, with both sides agreeing to explore additional opportunities for collaboration in trade, investment, workforce development, and cultural exchange.
