Bishkek: The Minister of State for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination of Pakistan, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed Bharath, presented Pakistan’s Country Statement at the 9th Meeting of Health Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Bishkek. The meeting centered on the theme “State Policy of Prevention and Management of Public Health.”
According to the Press Information Department, Dr. Bharath acknowledged the leadership of Kyrgyzstan as the Chair of the SCO and commended its efforts in enhancing regional public health collaboration. He also appreciated the SCO Secretariat’s role in organizing the meeting.
Dr. Bharath reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to regional cooperation, emphasizing the country’s determination to collaborate with SCO member states to promote health and well-being. He outlined Pakistan’s transition from “sick care” to prevention-focused healthcare, aligned with global commitments to strengthen primary health care and achieve Universal Health Coverage.
The Minister addressed ongoing challenges in maternal and child health, particularly in areas with high fertility rates and malnutrition. He shared that Pakistan has drafted a National Health and Population Policy (2026-2035) to improve primary healthcare systems. Dr. Bharath also highlighted Pakistan’s advancements in digital health innovation, including telemedicine and mobile health solutions.
On regional health security, Dr. Bharath affirmed Pakistan’s dedication to enhancing emergency preparedness and response capacities. He emphasized coordinated approaches and resource sharing to tackle public health emergencies effectively. Additionally, he noted the importance of maintaining high standards in medical education, with over 7,000 Pakistani students studying in medical institutions in Kyrgyzstan.
Dr. Bharath concluded by reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to prevention-focused health policies and collaboration within the SCO framework. He extended an invitation for the next SCO Health Ministers’ Meeting to be hosted in Pakistan in 2027.
