ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed Pakistan’s desire for a permanent end to the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran, emphasizing its importance for regional peace. Speaking at the sixth International Paigham-e-Islam Conference in Islamabad, he underscored Pakistan’s mediation efforts, which have facilitated dialogue between the two nations.
According to Radio Pakistan, Prime Minister Sharif conveyed confidence that these negotiations could lead to lasting peace in the region, preventing further loss of life. He described Pakistan’s role as historic and lauded the contributions of Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defense Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in achieving a ceasefire and initiating talks. Additionally, he acknowledged the efforts of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and support from China, Turkiye, and other nations in the peace process.
The Prime Minister highlighted Pakistan’s balanced approach to regional issues and noted the strengthening of bilateral relations with Saudi Arabia, citing a defense agreement as a testament to this bond. He reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast positions on Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir, affirming continued support for the rights of Palestinian and Kashmiri people.
Sharif also called for unity among Muslim communities and condemned those promoting division and terrorism. During the conference’s second session, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace, emphasizing the significance of dialogue and de-escalation. Dar also reinforced Pakistan’s stance on Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine, and highlighted the country’s leadership in combating Islamophobia and promoting interfaith harmony. He applauded the resilience of the Pakistani nation and its dedication to peace and progress under Sharif’s leadership, welcoming the participation of international and national scholars at the conference.
