Owaisi Calls for Investigation into Police Firing That Killed Three in Uttar Pradesh

New Delhi: All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has demanded an impartial investigation into the deaths of three Muslim men—Naeem Ahmed, Bilal Ansari, and Nauman—who were killed during a police firing on a protest in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the violence erupted over the weekend following a controversial survey of a historical mosque in the area. Owaisi condemned the actions of the Uttar Pradesh police, describing the protest as peaceful, and called for accountability for the officials involved. He extended condolences to the families of the deceased and stressed the need for justice.

The AIMIM leader criticized the handling of the situation, suggesting it reflects broader issues concerning the safety of Muslim places of worship across India. He linked these concerns to the 2019 Babri Masjid verdict, which, he argued, has encouraged certain groups to target mosques nationwide.

Owaisi expressed his grief through Urdu couplets, emphasizing the pain experienced by the victims’ families and the persisting communal tensions. Meanwhile, Sambhal MP Ziaur Rahman Barq has appealed for calm, urging residents to remain peaceful as legal and political measures are pursued to address the incident.

The recent events have sparked renewed discussions about religious freedoms and the responsibilities of state agencies in managing communal disputes.
