New Members of Pakistan’s National Assembly Take Oath in Inaugural Session

Islamabad, In a significant development marking the beginning of the 16th National Assembly’s tenure, the newly elected members were sworn in today during the inaugural session at the Parliament House. The ceremony, presided over by Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf, signifies the commencement of the new legislative period following the recent elections.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the oath-taking ceremony was a formal induction of the elected representatives into the National Assembly, the lower house of Pakistan’s bicameral parliament. Following the swearing-in, Speaker Ashraf extended his congratulations to the members, acknowledging their successful election and the responsibilities they now shoulder towards the nation’s governance.

The session also saw the members officially signing the roll of members, a procedural step that confirms their status as lawmakers. The event sets the stage for the forthcoming election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, scheduled for tomorrow through a secret ballot process. The nominations have been finalized, with Sardar Ayaz Sadiq of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Malik Muhammad Amir Dogar of the Sunni Ittehad Council vying for the Speaker’s position. Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker’s role will be contested by Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah of the Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians and Junaid Akbar of the Sunni Ittehad Council. The Ministry confirmed that all nomination papers for these crucial roles have been duly accepted, paving the way for the next phase of leadership within the assembly.
