Nationwide events mark International Labour Day with focus on worker safety amid climate challenges


Islamabad, International Labour Day was commemorated across Pakistan today with events emphasizing the enhancement of workplace safety and health in response to climate change. Various regional leaders, including Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, participated in activities aimed at affirming and improving laborers’ rights.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the day’s theme centered on ensuring the safety and health of workers amidst environmental changes. Punjab Chief Minister Nawaz extended greetings to laborers worldwide and committed to fostering a society that values every worker. Simultaneously, Punjab Governor Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rahman called on employers to safeguard workers’ rights and adhere to safety regulations.



In Karachi, Governor Tessori highlighted a special event at the Governor House where over two thousand ration bags were distributed to workers in need. Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Haji Ghulam Ali expressed their commitment to policy development for labor welfare and acknowledged workers’ contributions to national development.



The day also saw a rally at Bacha Khan Chowk in Peshawar organized by the Population Welfare Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Further south, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti pledged to implement measures to enhance facilities for laborers, while Governor Malik Abdul Wali Kakar commended the labor force’s role in national progress. In Gilgit-Baltistan, Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan affirmed the recent approval of a social protection policy aimed at safeguarding workers’ rights.
