Islamabad, October 11, 2021 (PPI-OT):20th meeting of the Standing Committee on National Food Security and Research (NFS and R) was held under the chairmanship of Rao Muhammad Ajmal Khan, MNA, in the Committee Room of National Agriculture Research Center (NARC), Chak Shahzad, Islamabad.
Syed Fakhar Imam, Federal Minister for NFS and R, apprised the Committee that bumper crop of wheat was recorded this year. He assured the Committee that after consultation with the Provinces, the minimum support price of wheat, for the next year, would be announced within a week. The Committee recommended that the minimum support price for the wheat for the next year should be at least Rs/- 2200 per maund.
The Committee took notice of the non-presence of the Secretary, M/o NFS and R in the meeting. The Committee discussed the issue of theft of Garlic Seed from NARC in detail and directed the Authorities to provide report of Fact Finding Committee, and also directed to provide the record of, how much seed was sold in the last three years, at the earliest.
The Committee discussed “The Islamabad Bee-keeping and Honey Board Bill, 2021” and “The Islamabad Poultry Production Regulation Bill, 2021” introduced by Ms. Nafeesa Inayatullah Khan Khattak, MNA, in detail, and passed the proposed Bills, unanimously.
The Committee deferred the “The West Pakistan Pure Food (Amendment) Bill, 2021” introduced by Ms. Nusrat Wahid, MNA, due to non-presence of the Mover.
The Committee deferred the “National Food Safety, Animal and Plant Health Regulatory Authority Act, 2021”, introduced by Rai Muhammad Murtaza Iqbal, MNA; and Calling Attention Notice No. 9 moved by Mr. Mohsin Nawaz Ranjha, MNA; due to their non-presence.
MNAs, Mr. Zahoor Hussain Qureshi, Dr. Nausheen Hamid, Mr. Ahmad Raza Maneka, Choudhary Faqir Ahmad, Mr. Riaz ul Haq, Syed Javed Ali Shah Jillani, Mr. Kamal U-din, Mr. Zulfiqar Bachani, Ms. Nafeesa Inayatullah Khan Khattak, (Mover of the Bills), and senior officers/ officials from the Ministry of NFS and R and NARC attended the meeting.
