Islamabad, Speaker of the National Assembly, Raja Pervez Ashraf, is set to inaugurate the Yadgar Dastur (Dastur Memorial) and Bagh Dastur (Dastur Garden) on Wednesday, February 28, at 2 pm. This event marks a significant occasion aimed at commemorating the importance of the Constitution in Pakistan’s history.
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the inauguration ceremony will be attended by members of parliament, members of the advisory committee for the Golden Jubilee of the Constitution, representatives from civil society, and the media. The ceremony, which will take place at Bagh Dastur on Shahraha Dhakram (D Chowk), is scheduled to be broadcast live on Pakistan Television.
Yadgar-i-Dastur and Bagh-i-Dastur represent the first projects of their kind to underscore the significance of the 1973 Constitution in the nation’s history. Situated on Shahraha Dhakram, the memorial and garden are designed to reflect the Constitution’s majesty fully. The sites feature high-level plaques detailing the basic human rights enshrined in the Constitution, alongside engravings of the names of the Constitutional Committee members who framed the document. The presence of the green crescent flag symbolizes national unity, while trees planted throughout the garden mirror the Constitution’s Articles.
This initiative, under the guidance of Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf and the advisory committee, celebrates the Constitution’s Golden Jubilee in a distinguished manner, reinforcing the document’s pivotal role in shaping Pakistan’s democratic framework and societal values.
