Islamabad: The National Assembly approved four demands for grants related to the Interior Ministry for the upcoming fiscal year, as moved by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. The approval process saw the rejection of cut motions proposed by the opposition, underscoring parliamentary support for the government’s financial plans concerning internal security and administration.
According to Radio Pakistan, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, in his address winding up the discussion on the cut motions, highlighted the reforms implemented in various departments under the Interior Ministry. He reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining peace by combating terrorism, citing Pakistan’s sacrifices in the war on terror. The minister noted that National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and Provincial Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centers are now operational, enhancing the nation’s security framework.
Chaudhry also reported significant improvements in the immigration and passport verification systems, claiming a forty-seven percent reduction in illegal migration from Pakistan. He mentioned ongoing efforts to extend passport services to NADRA offices, aiming to increase accessibility for citizens. Additionally, the minister announced plans for Islamabad to become the country’s first smart city, equipped with an e-governance system to provide efficient civic services.
