Lucerne: The first session of high-level talks under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding framework concluded in Switzerland, marking a significant step towards resolving key international issues. Representatives from Iran, the United States, and the mediating countries, Qatar and Pakistan, participated in the discussions.
According to Radio Pakistan, a joint statement issued after the talks confirmed the establishment of a High Level Committee tasked with providing political oversight on the mediation process. Chief negotiators will consistently report to this committee and lead working groups focusing on nuclear issues, sanctions, and monitoring and dispute resolution to ensure the effective implementation of the MoU.
The committee has agreed on a roadmap aimed at reaching a final deal within 60 days, which sets the stage for further technical discussions. Additionally, a communication line has been established to prevent incidents and miscommunication, specifically to ensure the safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
The parties also agreed on the formation of a de-confliction cell, involving the Lebanese Republic and facilitated by the mediators, to ensure adherence to the termination of military operations in Lebanon as stipulated by the MoU. Technical talks are set to continue at the Burgenstock resort throughout the week, focusing on all relevant issues.
The mediating parties have reiterated their commitment to maintaining a constructive environment for negotiations, with the ultimate goal of reaching a comprehensive agreement.
