Islamabad: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has marked the beginning of 2026 with an impressive performance, achieving recoveries totaling Rs. 2,962 billion during the first quarter. This reflects an increase of 33 times compared to the Rs. 91.01 billion recovered in the same period last year, indicating enhanced institutional efficiency.
According to Press Information Department: During the first quarter of 2026, NAB Lahore and Multan recovered 4,034 acres of State land valued at Rs. 23.33 billion, while NAB Karachi and Sukkur recovered 54,387 acres worth Rs. 2,891.38 billion. Additionally, NAB Balochistan recovered 51,577 acres with an estimated value of Rs. 36.54 billion. Other direct recoveries amounted to Rs. 11.085 billion through mechanisms such as plea bargains and court fines. The Bureau also facilitated settlements for 6,475 individuals affected by public cheating cases, disbursing Rs. 1.78 billion.
With an ongoing focus on asset recovery, NAB, in coordination with provincial governments, is tracing approximately 900,000 acres of misappropriated State land in Punjab valued at Rs. 4.37 trillion and 452,968 acres in Sindh worth Rs. 10.96 trillion. Dedicated task forces in both provinces aim to expedite recovery and regularization processes.
The comprehensive national response highlights the emphasis on provincial collaboration and institutional alignment, which is expected to further accelerate recovery efforts. NAB remains committed to transparent and merit-based accountability, focusing on safeguarding public assets and returning proceeds of corruption to the National Exchequer.
