Munir Akram Advocates for Resolution of Prolonged Disputes to Foster Peace Amid Mideast Strains

NEW YORK, In the midst of escalating tensions in the Middle East, Ambassador Munir Akram, Pakistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations, emphasized the importance of resolving lingering disputes, particularly those concerning the right to self-determination, such as the issues in Palestine and Kashmir. He cautioned that without resolution, these disputes might intensify, jeopardizing regional peace and stability.

According to a news release by Kashmir Media Service, Ambassador Munir Akram shared his views with an international youth delegation that had visited the Pakistan Mission. The delegation, consisting of young representatives from multiple countries, was in New York for the four-day Global Peace Summit, which culminated on Saturday.

During the meeting, Akram underlined that India has not honored Kashmir’s inherent right to self-determination, contradicting international law, the UN Charter, and the resolutions of the UN Security Council. Over the past 76 years, various generations of Kashmiris have made tremendous sacrifices in their pursuit of freedom from what he described as India’s unauthorized occupation.

Additionally, Akram informed the youth delegates about the Kashmir dispute, shedding light on the significance of Black Day, observed on the preceding Friday. This day serves as a reminder to the international community about the pledges made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and expresses solidarity with their cause.

The ambassador commended the youth’s dedication to peace-building and their efforts to combat climate change. He highlighted the vital role the younger generation plays in addressing pressing global challenges and shaping a brighter future. He also acknowledged the power of technology in unifying young individuals from diverse cultural, regional, and background contexts towards a common objective, fostering unity in thought and action.

Wrapping up the session, Muhammad Ahmad, the founder of Global Peace Chain, apprised the attendees about the summit’s goals and intentions. He expressed gratitude to Ambassador Munir Akram and the Pakistan Mission for their hospitality and for hosting the delegation.
