Mayor of Karachi Inaugurates New Emergency Operational Base in Orangi Town

Karachi: Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, inaugurated the Sindh Integrated Emergency and Health Services (SIEHS-1122) Emergency Operational Base in Orangi Town. The facility, developed in collaboration between the Government of Sindh, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), and SIEHS-1122, aims to enhance emergency response times in the region.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the inauguration was attended by Brigadier (Retd.) Tariq Qadir Lakhiar, Chief Executive Officer of SIEHS-1122, alongside local elected representatives, community leaders, and media members. Mayor Wahab highlighted that the base, previously located at Kati Pahari, has now been relocated to a government facility near Banaras to improve accessibility and speed of emergency services in Orangi Town and nearby areas.

The facility, which had remained unused for years, has been renovated by SIEHS-1122 into a modern emergency center, providing free pre-hospital emergency medical services around the clock, adhering to ISO 9001:2015 quality standards. Mayor Wahab emphasized the importance of converting underutilized public assets for public service and underscored the critical need for effective emergency services in a city like Karachi.

Brigadier (Retd.) Lakhiar noted the initiative as a significant step in bringing quality emergency services closer to residents of Karachi West. He acknowledged the support of the Government of Sindh, KMC, and Mayor Wahab in realizing this project, which marks a milestone in strengthening Karachi’s emergency response system.

SIEHS-1122 currently operates over 627 emergency vehicles, providing free services across Sindh’s 30 districts and continues to seek contributions from various sectors to expand and enhance its services.
