KARACHI: Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, announced a significant development initiative with the construction of 50 new parks across the city and efforts to address water shortages in District West. The announcement was part of the inauguration of the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Family Park in Baldia Town.
According to a statement by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the newly inaugurated park, previously a garbage dump, has been transformed into a green space, representing the city’s ongoing commitment to development. Mayor Wahab highlighted the importance of public support in combating encroachments and emphasized that ongoing projects are being conducted uniformly across all seven districts of Karachi.
Mayor Wahab assured residents of Baldia Town of continued development, including the establishment of a satellite center of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in the area. This center aims to provide medical services to local residents, eliminating the need for long-distance travel for treatment.
In addition to parks, the mayor announced plans for a new football ground on Mauripur Road, with the tender process already completed. He criticized former leadership for inaction, contrasting it with current efforts by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation to visibly improve city infrastructure.
The mayor addressed the city’s encroachment issues, suggesting a boycott of street vendors to reduce congestion. He noted that despite legal requirements to return impounded carts, vendors quickly resume operations due to consistent customer demand.
The newly opened 20,000-square-foot park in Baldia Town features recreational facilities for children, reflecting the People’s Party’s vision of extending municipal services throughout Karachi, including less developed areas.
