Karachi: Port Qasim has seen a notable increase in its cargo handling capacity, reaching 47 million tonnes, as part of efforts by the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Maritime Reforms. This improvement reflects a rise from the previous capacity of 45 million tonnes, marking a significant advancement in the port’s operational capabilities.
According to Radio Pakistan, the enhancements at Port Qasim are attributed to ongoing dredging activities aimed at maintaining the necessary depth of the navigation channels. In addition to these operational improvements, the port has implemented crucial reforms within its customs clearance system. The introduction of faceless customs assessment at Port Qasim is noted to have increased transparency and efficiency in the clearance process.
