ISLAMABAD: Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Monday addressed the pressing issues facing the province, citing terrorism, governance deficits, and economic challenges as major concerns. He also pointed to corruption and a lack of political ownership as factors worsening the situation. Governor Kundi underscored the importance of transparent fund management in enhancing governance standards in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

These remarks were made during the opening session of a seminar titled “Security and Governance Challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” organized by the Islamabad Policy Research Institute.

Governor Kundi highlighted the enduring threat of terrorism in the province, acknowledging the sacrifices made by security forces to restore peace. Despite these efforts, he noted that the threat has not been fully eliminated. Additionally, the merger of FATA has not resolved governance issues in the newly integrated districts, which continue to face cross-border criminal activities, corruption, and political marginalization.

The Governor emphasized the need for effective border management, improved institutional coordination, and sustainable policies to combat terrorism and crime. He expressed serious concerns regarding the mismanagement of public funds, observing that developmental funds have been misused over the past decade, and legislative measures have not yielded significant results.

He advocated for the strengthening of Public Accounts Committees, public hearings on audit reports, and a more robust system of governmental accountability. Governor Kundi stated, “Good governance cannot be achieved unless financial discipline and transparency are ensured.”

Concluding his address, he expressed optimism that through unity, determination, and a collective strategy, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could become a peaceful, prosperous, and developed province.
