Kashmir Black Day Marked by Demonstrations Across UK and Europe

LONDON, Demonstrations erupted outside Indian missions in the United Kingdom and various parts of Europe today, as Kashmiris, Pakistanis, and their allies marked the 76th year of what they describe as the illegal Indian occupation of Kashmir.

According to a news release by Kashmir Media Service, the demonstrations were spearheaded by Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK, which organized both protests and a widespread digital campaign across the region. Their aim was to draw the attention of the international community to the ongoing situation in Kashmir.

Protesters chanted pro-Kashmir and pro-freedom slogans outside the Indian missions, emphasizing their belief that Kashmiris should be granted their rights irrespective of India’s military presence in the region. Historically, on October 27, 1947, India initiated its control over the region, which has been identified by the United Nations as a disputed territory.

Fahim Kayani, the President of Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK, addressed a gathering in Oslo, calling on the UN and the global community to recognize the rights of Kashmiris, specifically the right to a free and unbiased plebiscite. Kayani emphasized the urgency of adhering to UN resolutions, drawing parallels to the current situation in Gaza and the implications of delayed international interventions.

In his speech outside the Indian mission in Oslo, Kayani referred to the current leadership in New Delhi as having extreme tendencies and accused them of violating human rights. He stressed the potential risks that he believes India might pose to Western capitals and their inhabitants. Additionally, he expressed concern over the possibility of a nuclear crisis if the Kashmir issue remains unresolved.

Multiple cities across the UK, including Glasgow, Dundee, Nelson, Birmingham, Como, Luton, and Manchester, witnessed similar protests. Shah Hussain, who is the President of Tehreek-e-Kashmir in Norway, alongside Rafqat Ali, the General Secretary, spearheaded the protest in Oslo. Furthermore, several leaders from Tehreek-e-Kashmir, including Muhammad Hanif Raja, Shah Hussain, Rafaqat Ali, Chaudhry Fakhr Iqbal Sahib, and others, led protests in their respective regions.
