Karachi, A significant discussion between Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqir and Federal Minister for Commerce, Industry and Board of Investment Gohar Ijaz Khan centered on the establishment of an industrial park in the Steel Mills area of Karachi. The meeting, held at the Chief Minister House, focused on the need to increase industrialization in Karachi as a means to spur economic development and job creation.
According to Chief Minister Sindh, the discussion highlighted the pivotal role of industrialization in driving economic growth and generating employment opportunities. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Dr. Fakhar Alam, Federal Secretary Commerce Saleh Farooqui, Secretary Federal Commerce, Industry and Investment Board Sohail Rajput, and other officials.
The Federal Minister informed the Chief Minister that 1500 acres of land in the Steel Mills area have been allocated for the industrial park, with its development entrusted to Chinese authorities under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The Federal government has plans to hand over this area to Chinese authorities for the establishment of industrial units.
The Chief Minister expressed that the development of the Dhabiji Industrial Zone by the provincial government and the new industrial park at Steel Mills would be significant steps forward. Justice Baqir emphasized the need for industrial units focused on producing goods for export, underlining the importance of exports in earning foreign exchange and keeping pace with global industrial developments.
The meeting also revealed that the Industrial Park at Steel Mill is expected to create over one million direct and indirect employment opportunities. Furthermore, it is anticipated to contribute significantly to the export of manufactured goods, thus bolstering the economy of Karachi and Pakistan as a whole.
