Karachi: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab underscored the pivotal economic role of Karachi and its ongoing development projects during a meeting with participants from the 29th Public Policy and Governance Course of the Punjab Institute of Management and Professional Development (PIMPD), Lahore. The visit, which took place at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), aimed to provide insights into the city’s governance and infrastructure improvements.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the mayor emphasized Karachi’s position as a major commercial hub in Pakistan, linking the city’s development directly to the country’s economic progress. Mayor Wahab highlighted the efforts of the Pakistan Peoples Party representatives in addressing public issues and enhancing the city’s infrastructure to meet citizens’ expectations. He noted that industrial and commercial activities in Karachi continue as usual, contributing to the city’s progress.
Mayor Wahab called for a collective effort by citizens to support the initiatives for Karachi’s improvement, equating the responsibility of maintaining the city to that of one’s home. He pointed out that Karachi, welcoming thousands of new residents daily, offers free medical facilities at its hospitals to people from across Pakistan. Effective planning, timely implementation, and continuous monitoring were identified as essential for the development of any sector, with the leadership of the Pakistan Peoples Party committed to providing improved facilities across Sindh.
Municipal Commissioner KMC Abrar Jaffar provided a detailed briefing on the functions and performance of various KMC departments, highlighting the municipal services offered to citizens. The visiting participants expressed appreciation for the insights gained and thanked Mayor Wahab for the informative exchange. The visit concluded with Mayor Wahab presenting a commemorative shield to the head of the Public Policy and Governance Course participants.
