KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has emphasized the importance of recognizing individuals who bring pride to the city, describing them as the true heroes of Karachi. Speaking at a ceremony held at Khaliqdina Hall, where prominent Karachi personalities were honored with the Tamgha-e-Karachi award, he expressed gratitude for their contributions to elevating the reputation of Karachi, Sindh, and Pakistan.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the ceremony acknowledged various individuals, including former cricketer Rashid Latif and martyred firefighter Furqan Shaukat, for their outstanding service in their respective fields. The event was attended by Municipal Commissioner KMC Abrar Jaffer, Parliamentary Leader of KMC City Council Karamullah Waqasi, and other city officials and citizens.
Mayor Wahab noted that many deserving individuals often do not receive national awards, prompting the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation to continue the Tamgha-e-Karachi tradition, which began last year. He highlighted the significance of recognizing these unsung heroes and expressed hope for a brighter future for Karachi through collective efforts and support from its citizens.
He also acknowledged the rich heritage of Karachi, referencing the restoration and reopening of Khaliqdina Hall as a reflection of the city’s cultural legacy. The Mayor urged citizens to collaborate with the KMC to address and resolve the city’s challenges, reinforcing a commitment to progress and development.
The ceremony also included speeches from other officials, who echoed the sentiments of Mayor Wahab in praising the dedication and service of both past and present contributors to the city’s welfare.
