Karachi: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced an expansion of the initiative to convert streetlights on the city’s major roads to solar energy, directing the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to begin work on additional key routes. The project, which has shown promising results on major roads, is set to broaden its scope.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the shift to solar energy for street lighting aims to conserve electricity and offer citizens improved and consistent lighting services. Mayor Wahab emphasized KMC’s commitment to adopting alternative and environmentally sustainable energy solutions, prioritizing the city’s needs.
Work on converting streetlights on Shahrah-e-Saadi to solar energy is advancing quickly, with plans to extend the installation of solar streetlights to other significant roads in the city in the near future. The project seeks to enhance public amenities while decreasing energy costs.
Mayor Wahab instructed KMC departments to ensure the timely completion of solar streetlight installations and to develop a detailed strategy for the gradual conversion of additional important roads to solar power.
