Tokyo: In a recent summit telephone call, Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae of Japan and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan discussed ongoing U.S.-Iran talks held in Islamabad. The conversation, which lasted approximately 15 minutes, focused on the importance of de-escalating tensions and ensuring the safety of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister Takaichi commended Prime Minister Sharif and Pakistan for their mediation efforts in the U.S.-Iran talks. She highlighted Japan’s commitment to de-escalation and the need for a prompt final agreement through dialogue. Additionally, she stressed the urgency of restoring stability in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for global trade, to guarantee the safety of all vessels, including those from Japan and other Asian nations.
Prime Minister Sharif provided details on the discussions between the United States and Iran and emphasized Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives. He expressed a desire to collaborate with Japan to achieve an early reduction in tensions and ensure safe navigation through the Strait.
Both leaders agreed to maintain close communication as they continue to address the situation.
