ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has released its latest six-month performance report, documenting extensive achievements in key operational areas including traffic law enforcement, public service delivery, and road safety awareness in the federal capital.
According to Islamabad Capital Police, the report outlines that ITP processed driving license applications for more than 160,000 citizens in the past six months. The processing included over 66,000 learner permits, the renewal of more than 38,000 driving licenses, and the issuance of over 50,000 new licenses. More than 3,500 duplicate licenses were issued, and over 5,000 driving licenses were converted and endorsed.
The report also highlights the ITP’s efforts in road safety and public awareness. Over 500,000 citizens were educated on traffic regulations, with more than 200,000 reached through the Road Education Program. Activities in various markets engaged over 54,000 people, while the Good Citizen Campaign and Friends of Police Program reached more than 74,000 and 97,000 citizens, respectively. Educational seminars further spread awareness to thousands more in diverse settings.
In terms of enforcement, the report indicates legal action against over 300,000 traffic violators. Notable figures include over 25,000 lane violations, more than 47,000 illegal parking cases, and actions against over 32,000 motorists for using fancy number plates. Additionally, more than 16,000 motorcyclists faced penalties for not wearing helmets, and legal measures were taken against over 18,000 wrong-way drivers and 21,000 overloading violations.
Chief Traffic Officer Muhammad Sarfraz Virk reaffirmed the commitment of Islamabad Traffic Police to employ modern technology and enhance citizen services to ensure safe and organized traffic conditions in the city. He emphasized that protecting citizens and maintaining smooth traffic flow remain the top priorities of the force.
