Srinagar, The International Crisis Group, based in Brussels, Belgium, has released a report critically examining the Indian government’s assertions of peace and stability in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, revealing a significant discrepancy between official claims and the on-ground reality.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the think tank’s findings were published following the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Srinagar, shedding light on the prevailing tensions in the region. The report, titled ‘Flare-Ups and Frustration as Kashmir Waits for a Vote,’ highlights the divergence between New Delhi’s portrayal of peace in Jammu and Kashmir and the continuous unrest and dissatisfaction among its residents.
The analysis by the International Crisis Group points to the absence of genuine political participation and civic freedoms as a major concern, suggesting that without these fundamental rights, the Indian government’s narrative of peace and security faces significant challenges. The report also echoes sentiments expressed by senior APHC leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, indicating that the policies being implemented are alienating the younger generation in Kashmir.
This critical examination by an international body adds to the growing discourse on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, urging a reassessment of strategies to address the deep-rooted issues in the region.
