Bijapur, August 19, 2023 (PPI-OT): An Indian inspector of the paramilitary Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) committed suicide in disturbed Chhattisgarh state in India. According to Kashmir Media Service, the Indian inspector of the paramilitary Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), a jungle warfare unit of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), died after shooting himself with his service rifle AK47 in Bijapur district of the state.
The incident took place at the headquarters of the 170th battalion of the CRPF in Bijapur town, around 400km from state capital Raipur, a senior Indian police official said. The CRPF and its elite unit CoBRA are extensively deployed in south Bastar which comprises three districts, including Dantewada, for anti-Naxal operations. The Naxals belong to the Indian oppressed community of Dalits who are demanding justice and freedom for their survival.
“Inspector Safi Akhtar, belonging to CoBRA 210th battalion, shot himself with an AK-47 rifle. On hearing the gunshots, his colleagues rushed there and found him seriously injured,” the official said. Safi Akhtar was taken to a local hospital where he died, he said.
