Srinagar: Indian forces continued their crackdown on the Hurriyat camp in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, targeting properties linked to key leaders, including All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman Masarrat Aalam Butt. The operation, aimed at suppressing demands for the region’s right to self-determination, has drawn criticism from local leaders.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Indian police have been conducting raids on residences of Hurriyat leaders and activists associated with several groups such as Jamat-e-Islami, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, and Muslim League. The areas affected include Shuhama, Duderhama, Saloora, Tulmulla, and Lar in Ganderbal district, alongside parts of Kulgam, Srinagar, and Baramulla districts.
During these operations, authorities reportedly harassed families and confiscated valuables, including house and bank documents and mobile phones. New Delhi-installed Lieutenant Governor Minhaj Sinha is believed to be leading the efforts to target the Hurriyat camp.
The raids involved not only the ransacking of homes but also pressure on families to dissuade Hurriyat activists from advocating freedom from Indian control.
In response, All Parties Hurriyat Conference spokesman, Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, issued a statement in Srinagar condemning the escalated actions against Hurriyat leaders and activists. He stated that New Delhi cannot quell the Kashmiri desire for freedom through intimidation.
The ongoing situation continues to escalate tensions in the already volatile region, with no clear resolution in sight.
