India Faces Allegations of Creating Atmosphere of Fear in Kashmir

Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has accused India of creating an atmosphere of fear and terror in the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) to suppress the region’s freedom movement. Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas, an APHC spokesperson, claimed that New Delhi is targeting Hurriyat leaders and activists by employing stringent laws against them.

The APHC’s statement, released through the Kashmir Media Service, accused Indian authorities of conducting raids on the homes of Hurriyat leaders and ordinary Kashmiris under laws such as the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, Public Safety Act, and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. These actions, the statement said, include detention and property confiscation, forcing residents to live under oppressive conditions.

Minhas criticized Indian Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to the region, alleging that he instructed security forces to stifle the Kashmiri people’s quest for freedom. The APHC maintains that despite these efforts, the spirit of the Kashmiri people remains unbroken.

The spokesperson emphasized the peaceful nature of the Hurriyat’s struggle for self-determination, a right purportedly guaranteed by the United Nations. He urged the international community to recognize these actions as a call to action and send a review team to assess the situation on the ground.

Additionally, the APHC accused the ruling BJP and RSS of attempting to erase the cultural identity of Muslims in the region through measures like the Waqf Amendment Bill, which they claim is designed to seize properties belonging to Muslims and Waqf Boards.

The statement concluded with a call for a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir issue, advocating for dialogue between India, Pakistan, and Kashmiri leaders as outlined in United Nations resolutions.
