India Accused of Ongoing Minority Rights Violations by Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has accused India of being a serious violator of minority rights, according to a statement from the Foreign Office. The spokesperson, Shafqat Ali Khan, responded to comments made by the Indian External Affairs Minister in Lok Sabha regarding the minority situation in Pakistan, highlighting India’s own issues with minority treatment.

Khan stated that India has a well-documented history of promoting hatred, discrimination, and violence against its minority communities. The spokesperson emphasized that India is not in a position to advocate for minority rights abroad, given its domestic record.

Citing various incidents, Khan criticized India’s treatment of its Muslim population, noting systemic violations of their rights. He urged the Indian government to focus on addressing internal failures instead of expressing concern for minority rights in other countries.

Furthermore, Khan called for India to implement concrete measures that ensure the safety and protection of minorities, including safeguarding their places of worship and preserving their cultural heritage.

The spokesperson contrasted the situation in Pakistan, where he claimed state institutions actively work to protect minority rights as a policy matter. He alleged that incidents targeting minorities in India frequently occur with the tacit approval or complicity of elements within the ruling establishment.
