HEC Unveils Industry-Aligned Computing Curriculum at Islamabad Event

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar has announced the launch of a revised Computing curriculum, introduced at the British Council’s ‘Partnership for Future Skills and Employment’ event. The event took place under the European Union TVET Sector Support Programme at the National Incubation Centre in Islamabad.

According to Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, the HEC delegation, which included Dr. Muhammad Ali Nasir, Advisor (Research & Innovation Division), Engr. Waheed Ahmed Mangi, head of the Academics Division, and Mr. Hidayatullah Kasi, Deputy Director (Curriculum), played a key role in the proceedings. Dr. Nasir provided an overview of the updated curriculum, developed through consultations with academia, industry, accreditation bodies, and various governmental and development partners.

The revised curriculum is designed in alignment with HEC’s Undergraduate Education Policy 2023, marking a shift towards competency-based and industry-aligned education. It incorporates emerging technologies and future skills through 14 specialisation pathways under the Computer Science program. These pathways include Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, Robotics, Internet of Things, and Quantum Computing. The curriculum also integrates industry-recognised certifications, mandatory internships, industry-supervised capstone projects, and outcome-based education principles to enhance graduate employability and global competitiveness.
