ISLAMABAD: The Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering an independent and robust print media landscape during a meeting with the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors. The discussion focused on the challenges confronting the newspaper industry, including necessary reforms in the Audit Bureau of Circulation, financial issues of media houses, and the proliferation of dummy newspapers.
According to Radio Pakistan, the meeting reached a consensus on the need to reform the Audit Bureau of Circulation system. Tarar emphasized the importance of making the system effective, transparent, and aligned with modern needs to address the industry’s challenges. He assured that the government will continue consultations with relevant stakeholders to resolve ongoing issues, including the prioritization of media house dues and matters concerning news agencies.
Tarar further stated that the government is committed to extending all feasible support to address the legitimate concerns of media institutions, highlighting that collaborative efforts are essential to enhance the industry’s functioning.
