Federal Minister Lauds Efforts to Save Asian Black Bear from Brutal Past

Islamabad: The Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, led by Federal Minister Musadik Masood Malik, has highlighted its dedication to wildlife protection following the successful rescue and rehabilitation of Rocky, a 7-year-old Asian Black Bear. Rocky’s plight garnered attention after a video revealed his dire condition after being subjected to 35 forced dog fights in Sargodha.

The bear, suffering from severe injuries and a broken jaw, was saved through the efforts of the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) and Four Paws International. Prompted by the Punjab Wildlife Department’s request, the two organizations intervened, sedating and transporting Rocky to the IWMB Rescue and Rehabilitation Center for urgent medical care.

Rocky’s treatment included wound care, neutering, and microchipping for identification. His relocation to a new enclosure marks a significant step in his recovery. Federal Minister Malik attended the event, praising the IWMB’s efforts and reaffirming the government’s commitment to wildlife conservation.

“Rocky’s rescue is a testament to our dedication to protecting Pakistan’s wildlife,” Minister Malik stated. The Ministry is actively working to prevent future cruelty and strengthen wildlife protection laws, with the aim of ensuring a secure environment for species like the Asian Black Bear.

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, alongside the Secretary Ministry of climate change, remains committed to its mission of wildlife protection and rehabilitation, aiming for a future free from cruelty for all species in Pakistan.
