Federal Minister Engages with Chinese Green Finance Leader on Sustainable Initiatives


Islamabad: Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, met with Mr. Ma Jun, President of the Institute of Finance and Sustainability, China, to discuss green finance and technology initiatives. The meeting focused on China’s Green Accelerator Program and potential collaborations to promote sustainable development in Pakistan.



According to Press Information Department, Mr. Ma Jun briefed Dr. Malik on the Green Accelerator Program, initiated in 2016, which includes 35 policy recommendations within a single framework. He highlighted China’s role in developing a green financing mechanism valued at approximately USD 7 trillion and noted China’s production of around 70 percent of the world’s wind and solar energy equipment, alongside nearly 60 percent of global electric vehicles.



Mr. Ma Jun outlined the program’s objective to create bankable green projects through technology, finance, carbon markets, and project design capabilities. This approach aims to produce scalable and commercially viable climate solutions.



The discussion also covered the application of various green technologies in different regions, including biochar production in Bangladesh, precision irrigation in China and Uzbekistan, and sustainable agriculture in Abu Dhabi. The focus was on adapting these innovations to local contexts while ensuring financial viability.



Dr. Malik informed Mr. Ma Jun about the Ministry’s “Green Fields” initiative, which seeks to connect young entrepreneurs with investors. This initiative is intended to foster green entrepreneurship in Pakistan and provide avenues for youth involvement in sustainable development.



Dr. Malik acknowledged China’s leadership in green finance and technology and stressed the significance of international collaboration in developing practical, scalable climate solutions. He emphasized Pakistan’s interest in leveraging global practices and partnerships to expedite its transition to a green economy.
