Islamabad: A delegation from the National Lobbying Delegation for Minority Rights met with Federal Minister for Human Rights, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, to discuss ongoing and future legal and policy initiatives aimed at protecting minority rights. Key topics included the Christian Marriage and Divorce Bill, minority representation in education, health, and employment, and measures against discrimination.

According to Press Information Department, the Federal Minister assured the delegation of the government’s commitment to working with minority representatives on legal issues, particularly the draft Christian Marriage and Divorce Bill. The delegation emphasized the necessity of a robust legal framework to safeguard the marriage and divorce rights of the Christian community, especially women.

The meeting also addressed proposals for ensuring equitable access to opportunities for minorities and highlighted the persistent issue of caste-based discrimination. Senator Tarar outlined legislative progress on the establishment of a National Commission for Minorities Rights, underscoring the importance of community consultation for effective policy development.

Both parties agreed to continue the consultative process to tackle issues affecting minority communities, with the delegation planning to submit further recommendations to the Ministry of Human Rights.
