ISLAMABAD: The Federal Government has announced a major overhaul of the passport system, aiming to transition entirely to an E-passport system. The decision was reached during a meeting led by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at the Passport and Immigration Headquarters.

According to Radio Pakistan, the meeting outlined several key initiatives, including the implementation of a cashless system in passport offices beginning next month and the integration of online passport applications with the PakID App. The Interior Minister emphasized that the shift to E-passports is expected to reduce fraud and forgery in passport issuance.

The meeting also addressed the financial aspects of premium passport services, indicating that fees will be adjusted to reflect the actual costs incurred. Additionally, the policy for business passports is to be finalized in consultation with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

Director General of Passports and Immigration, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, provided a comprehensive briefing on the current passport system. The meeting also revealed that preliminary steps have been completed for the domestic and international home delivery of passports.
