Islamabad: The Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet has sanctioned multi-billion-rupee allocations for development, security, and infrastructure projects across Pakistan. In a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, the committee approved substantial funds aimed at bolstering various sectors, including defense, urban development, and telecommunications.
According to Radio Pakistan, the committee allocated 7.026 billion rupees to the Sustainable Development Goals Achievement Programme, ensuring the continuation and timely execution of development projects. A notable allocation of 10.15 billion rupees was made for the Pakistan Navy’s Hangor Project. The Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control received approval for seven proposals, including 692.9 million rupees for security during Islamabad Peace Talks, 241 million rupees as compensation for the Imam Bargah blast, and 800 million rupees earmarked for Coast Guard patrol boats. Additional funds include 1.88 billion rupees for the expansion of Safe City Islamabad, 150 million rupees for the operations of the National Counter Terrorism Authority, and 413.9 million rupees for the security of Reko Diq.
The committee further endorsed 733 million rupees to cover salaries at Pakistan Television Corporation, 183.5 million rupees for telecom infrastructure enhancement in Shigar, Gilgit-Baltistan, and 119.9 million rupees for revised salaries of Parliamentary Secretaries. Over 11 billion rupees were designated for urban infrastructure projects in Karachi, Hyderabad, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Additional allocations include 1.3 billion rupees for the modernization of the Pakistan Mint, 4.377 billion rupees to support development in Gilgit-Baltistan, and a summary concerning the operational continuity of the Engro Vopak Terminal.
