Islamabad: Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan engaged in discussions with representatives from Korea South-East Power Company (KOEN) regarding potential investments in Pakistan’s hydropower sector. The meeting focused on KOEN’s proposed projects in Swat and the necessary support from local authorities.
According to Press Information Department, the KOEN delegation, led by CEO Kim Min Young, provided an overview of their investment activities in Pakistan, highlighting the completion of the 102 MW Gulpur Hydropower Project and the initiation of two new projects under the Power Generation Policy 2015. These projects include the 229 MW Asrit Kedam and the 238 MW Kalam Asrit hydropower projects.
The delegation reported that key project studies and approvals have been finalized, with significant financing secured, though they face challenges with tariff determination and project inclusion in future energy plans. The projects are expected to contribute significantly to clean energy and local economic development.
Minister Khan expressed appreciation for KOEN’s commitment to Pakistan, emphasizing the importance of a stable investment environment. He assured the delegation of governmental support to facilitate their projects, aligning with Pakistan’s evolving energy needs. The KOEN representatives expressed optimism about ongoing collaboration with the government to advance their hydropower initiatives.
