Islamabad: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani emphasized Pakistan’s dedication to enhancing relations with Bulgaria during a meeting with Bulgarian Ambassador Irena Genadieva Gancheva. The discussion centered on bilateral relations, regional developments, and economic and people-to-people ties.
According to Senate of Pakistan, the meeting took place at Parliament House, where Chairman Gilani praised Ambassador Gancheva for her efforts in fostering a strong relationship between the two nations. He acknowledged the longstanding friendship and mutual respect shared by Pakistan and Bulgaria, describing Bulgaria as a key partner in Europe. During the meeting, Gilani congratulated Bulgaria on its recent achievements, including joining the Schengen Area and adopting the Euro.
Chairman Gilani expressed interest in advancing political engagement through high-level visits and dialogue, aiming to unlock economic and commercial potential. He also highlighted the importance of the Pakistan-Bulgaria Inter-Governmental Commission on Economic Cooperation and expressed gratitude for Bulgaria’s support of Pakistan’s GSP Plus status.
Parliamentary diplomacy was underscored as vital in strengthening legislative cooperation and people-to-people contacts. Gilani advocated for increased exchanges between parliamentarians to solidify bilateral relations further.
The Chairman briefed the Ambassador on the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference, highlighting Pakistan’s role in promoting peace and dialogue. Gilani emphasized Pakistan’s global recognition as a peace-loving nation and recalled his tenure as Prime Minister, marked by efforts toward regional peace.
Gilani also discussed the Senate’s initiatives on women’s empowerment, minority rights, and youth engagement, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to inclusive governance. He concluded by thanking Ambassador Gancheva for her service and expressed hope for expanded cooperation with Bulgaria and the European Union.
