Dust-Thunderstorm Expected in Northwestern Regions as Westerly Wave Approaches

Islamabad: A fresh westerly wave is anticipated to reach the northwestern parts of the country on May 10, bringing with it dust-thunderstorms and rain, which are expected to persist until the night of May 12. According to National Weather Forecasting Centre – Islamabad, this weather system will affect various regions across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Gilgit Baltistan, and Kashmir, with predictions of dust-thunderstorms and rain from the evening of May 10 to May 12, and rain-wind/thunderstorms from May 11 to May 13.

The forecast indicates that the weather system may provide some respite from the hot weather in the upper parts of the country, though very hot conditions are expected to continue in the southern regions, including south Punjab, Sindh, and parts of Baluchistan. The met office has warned that windstorms and lightning could potentially damage weak structures such as electric poles, billboards, and solar panels during this period.

Farmers have been advised to plan their crop management strategies in response to the predicted dust storms and rain, particularly during the wheat harvesting season. Additionally, the possibility of landslides in vulnerable areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir has been noted, prompting tourists and travelers to exercise caution and limit unnecessary travel during the forecast period.
