Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to pursuing peace in the region, despite an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape marked by recent attacks in Iran and Saudi Arabia. Speaking at a Senate briefing, Dar emphasized Islamabad’s role as a mediator and facilitator in resolving regional conflicts, underscoring the need for careful strategizing in any diplomatic maneuvers.
According to Radio Pakistan, Dar detailed Pakistan’s ongoing initiatives aimed at achieving a dignified resolution to the regional situation. He highlighted the country’s consistent efforts in mediating conflicts and stressed the importance of maintaining this role amid new challenges.
The session also featured discussions initiated by Opposition Leader Raja Nasir Abbas regarding the surge in petroleum product prices linked to Middle Eastern conflicts. Abbas praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and called for unified national strategies to navigate the economic challenges posed by rising oil costs.
Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar attributed the fuel price hikes to unprecedented global market conditions, noting that the government is implementing targeted subsidies to mitigate the impact on vulnerable populations. Additional calls for further reductions in petroleum prices were made by Maulana Atta Ur Rehman, among others.
The Senate session included contributions from several other members and is set to reconvene tomorrow afternoon.
