Islamabad: A delegation from Denmark, led by FLSmidth’s Global CEO Mr. Mikko Keto and accompanied by Danish Ambassador to Pakistan Mr. Jakob Linulf, met with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, to explore investment opportunities in the country’s mining sector. The discussions focused on potential substantial investments, particularly in mining zones, with a keen interest in Balochistan’s untapped resources.
According to Press Information Department, the Danish delegation expressed a strong interest in making significant investments in Pakistan’s mining sector. During the meeting, Minister Jam Kamal Khan highlighted the vast potential for mining in Pakistan, especially emphasizing the opportunities in Balochistan where small-scale mining could be enhanced. He proposed that FLSmidth collaborate with the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) to organize awareness sessions and workshops aimed at boosting industry knowledge and skills.
Furthermore, Minister Khan suggested the establishment of sector-specific councils for Mining and Cement to facilitate better coordination and matchmaking between local and international stakeholders. He also stressed the importance of adopting a green framework and transferring technology to ensure sustainable development in these sectors, aligning with the Pakistan Denmark Green Framework Engagement. This initiative aims to support compliance with EU regulations, such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
Mr. Mikko Keto acknowledged the Pakistani government’s efforts to safeguard and promote foreign investment. He expressed a strong desire to enhance investments in the mining sector and highlighted FLSmidth’s commitment to upskilling and training the local workforce, including the youth. This approach aims to ensure that the benefits of increased investments are broadly shared within the community.
