ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, has reiterated the country’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Spain, focusing on agriculture and sports. In a meeting with Spain’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Carlos Aragon, in Islamabad, the minister emphasized the potential for cooperation in several areas of mutual interest.

According to Radio Pakistan, Minister Iqbal highlighted Pakistan’s capabilities in agriculture, noting the country’s emergence as a producer of high-quality olives. He extended an invitation for Spanish collaboration in olive cultivation, agribusiness, value addition, and agricultural technology, particularly in regions such as Balochistan, the merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the Potohar area.

The minister also congratulated Spain on securing the 2026 FIFA World Cup and proposed collaboration in sports development. He suggested initiatives such as technical assistance, coaching exchanges, and training programs to foster football talent in Pakistan. Ambassador Aragon, during the meeting, acknowledged Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in promoting dialogue and reducing regional tensions, describing these as positive contributions to international peace and stability.
