Lahore: Punjab Police has announced the completion of extensive security arrangements for the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), deploying more than 42,000 officers and personnel across Punjab to ensure a peaceful observance of the religious events. The security measures will cover 730 Majalis and 420 mourning processions, with significant resources concentrated in Lahore where over 10,000 personnel will be on duty.
According to Punjab Police, Inspector General Abdul Kareem emphasized the utilization of advanced security technology, including Safe Cities cameras, walk-through gates, metal detectors, and sniper deployments to maintain order. In Lahore, 44 Majalis and 17 mourning processions will receive enhanced protection, bolstered by 390 walk-through gates and 6,427 metal detectors. The security operations are supported by the Elite Force, Traffic Police, and volunteers, with continuous monitoring from special control rooms.
IG Punjab Abdul Kareem has instructed senior police officials to oversee the security protocols personally and ensure strict adherence to the measures in place. In addition to the Chehlum events, comprehensive security plans are also in place for the annual Urs of Hazrat Data Ali Hajveri, accommodating the safety of devotees nationwide. Coordination with Peace Committees, community leaders, and civil society is being prioritized to enhance the effectiveness of these security arrangements.
