China Reaffirms Support for Pakistan’s Mediation Efforts in Iran-US Peace Talks

Islamabad: China has reiterated its support for Pakistan’s mediation efforts in the ongoing Iran-United States peace talks, emphasizing the importance of resolving disputes peacefully in line with the United Nations Charter. The reaffirmation came during a telephone conversation between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

According to Radio Pakistan, Foreign Minister Wang Yi praised Pakistan’s commitment to peace and stability, citing the country’s continuous outreach, active mediation, and sustained engagement. He congratulated Pakistan’s leadership on the successful mediation process and the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar expressed his gratitude for China’s steadfast support, highlighting the four-point peace proposal of President Xi Jinping and the five-point Pakistan-China peace initiative. The discussions between the two leaders focused on the Iran-US peace process, particularly the high-level talks in Burgenstock, which were mediated by Pakistan and Qatar.

The Deputy Prime Minister also noted that the talks resulted in the creation of a high-level committee to oversee the mediation process under the Islamabad MoU. The process includes three working groups dedicated to addressing the nuclear issue, sanctions, and monitoring and dispute resolution, with the aim of facilitating a final agreement between the parties within 60 days.

Both leaders expressed their commitment to collaborate closely for a negotiated settlement, striving for a permanent end to hostilities and fostering lasting peace, shared development, and common prosperity.
