Islamabad: Pakistan and the United States engaged in discussions to enhance bilateral cooperation in the maritime sector, focusing on investment, trade, port development, and the blue economy.
According to Press Information Department, the discussions occurred during a meeting between Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry and United States Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker. The meeting, held at the minister’s office, revolved around strategic areas including maritime infrastructure, shipping, logistics, and port-related services.
Minister Chaudhry emphasized the strategic importance of Pakistan’s ports and coastal resources, inviting US investors to explore the opportunities available in these sectors. He assured that Pakistan is committed to creating a business-friendly environment for foreign investors, encouraging American involvement in developing the country’s blue economy.
The conversation also touched on strengthening port infrastructure, improving logistics networks, and enhancing connectivity to bolster regional and international trade. Both parties agreed in principle to establish a joint working group aimed at promoting coordination and expanding engagement in the maritime sector.
Chargé Baker expressed Washington’s interest in deepening economic cooperation with Pakistan and strengthening partnerships in maritime development. She highlighted the potential for collaboration in the blue economy and sustainable development, acknowledging Pakistan’s contributions to regional peace and stability.
The meeting concluded with both sides committed to enhancing partnerships in maritime affairs, trade, and investment, aiming to identify new cooperation opportunities and support sustainable economic growth.
