Islamabad: The Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mr. Justice Yahya Afridi, has been appointed as an Honorary Bencher of the Inner Temple, London, one of the four Inns of Court in the United Kingdom. This announcement was made during a meeting in Islamabad, where Barrister Saira Kabir Sheikh, a King’s Counsel at Francis Taylor Building Chambers in London, formally conveyed the appointment.
According to Press Information Department, the meeting, held at the Supreme Court of Pakistan, also included discussions on enhancing cooperation between the Inner Temple and Pakistan’s legal community. Attendees included prominent members of Pakistan’s legal system, such as the President and General Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association and senior officials from the Federal Judicial Academy and the Law and Justice Commission.
The conversation covered various subjects, including judicial education, professional training, and opportunities for institutional collaboration. Both sides acknowledged the significance of these exchanges in strengthening legal capacity and promoting best practices within the justice system.
Justice Afridi expressed appreciation for the Inner Temple’s role in upholding legal education standards and emphasized the Supreme Court’s interest in fostering collaboration with international legal institutions, particularly in training and reform initiatives.
