Chairman of Pasban-e-Hurriyat Criticizes India’s Use of Force in Kashmir

Karachi, Uzair Ahmed Ghazali, the Chairman of Pasban-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, has strongly criticized India for using excessive military force to quell the Kashmiris’ ongoing struggle for self-determination. During a press conference in Muzaffarabad, Ghazali condemned these actions and called for increased local and international support for the Kashmiri cause.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Ghazali, in his address, stated that the struggle of the Kashmiri people is a legitimate movement rooted in the resolutions passed by the United Nations. He emphasized the importance of this struggle and the need for it to be recognized and supported.

Ghazali appealed to the people in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, which he referred to as the base camp of the Kashmir freedom struggle, to actively participate in raising the demand for the right to self-determination. He encouraged the organization of public rallies and gatherings in various districts on January 5, 2024, a significant date for the Kashmiri movement.

January 5 is observed as the Right to Self-determination Day by Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and globally. This date commemorates the resolution passed by the UN Security Council on January 5, 1949, which supported the Kashmiris’ right to determine their future through a plebiscite under the supervision of the World Body.

Further emphasizing the urgency of the matter, Ghazali mentioned that a resolution would be presented to the United Nations office in Muzaffarabad. This resolution will urge the UN to fulfill its commitment to conduct a plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir, as promised in its earlier resolutions.

Ghazali’s statements and the planned actions reflect the ongoing dissatisfaction and unrest in the region over the handling of the Kashmir issue, highlighting a persistent demand for a peaceful and democratic resolution in line with international commitments.
