Karachi, Dr. Nadeem Jan, the Caretaker Minister for National Health Services, has made a significant appeal to all sectors of society to contribute to the eradication of polio in Pakistan. This call for collective action was made during his address at the National Ulema Conference in Islamabad.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Dr. Jan emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the complete eradication of polio. He highlighted the vital role that various societal segments, including religious leaders and scholars, can play in this mission. The Health Minister specifically requested the Ulema to utilize mosques and Mehrabs to advance this noble cause, recognizing their influence and reach within communities.

Special Representative to the Prime Minister on Religious Harmony, Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi, also spoke at the conference, underlining the national importance of the issue. He clarified that the fight against polio is not linked to any particular sect, but rather a concern that transcends religious divides. Ashrafi further called upon the media to play a crucial role in raising awareness about the seriousness of polio and the need for widespread vaccination efforts.

This concerted call by the government and religious leaders signifies the urgent need for a unified approach in tackling polio, a debilitating disease that continues to pose a threat to children in Pakistan.
