Islamabad, Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, the Caretaker Minister for Finance, has emphasized the need for a comprehensive overhaul of Pakistan’s fiscal apparatus to reduce the country’s revenue-expenditure gap. This statement was made during her address at a national seminar titled “Pakistan’s Economic Crisis: Challenges and the Way Forward” in Islamabad.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Dr. Akhtar underlined the necessity of bold reforms to usher in a new era of development and prosperity in Pakistan. She identified key areas that have increased Pakistan’s economic vulnerability to both domestic and global shocks.
The Caretaker Minister stressed the importance of addressing five critical areas to reduce these vulnerabilities and foster sustainable growth. These areas include a comprehensive revamp of the government’s fiscal apparatus, addressing structural weaknesses of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), reducing the national debt burden, enhancing competitiveness, and encouraging new investments. Dr. Akhtar’s remarks highlight the urgency of implementing strategic reforms to stabilize and grow Pakistan’s economy in the face of ongoing challenges.
